As Denise now knows, screening of trip candidates is as important as the marital-engagement process, and most groups are rigorous about it. I''m a snob about walking on my home course, but at resort courses, when carts are required, I dibs the driver''s seat.Perversely, courses that require carts are often poorly laid out for driving. Cartpaths are situated in places where golf balls rarely go, such as on the left. If you are required to keep your cart on the path, you can end up walking farther than you would have if you hoofed it. I once watched a golfer walk 75 yards from the path to examine his ball, which was lying in the rough 300 yards from the green; walk 75 yards back to his cart to get a club; walk 75 yards back to his ball; top the ball 50 yards forward; walk 75 yards back to get another club (his 250-yard club, I guess); drive his cart 50 yards forward, etc.
